About This Event
The Bangladesh Green Environmental Research Centre recently conducted an impactful GIS Workshop at Eden Girls' College aimed at engaging youth in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and demonstrating how technology can be used to tackle critical environmental issues. The event was designed to educate students about the power of GIS in understanding and solving environmental problems, from pollution monitoring to resource management.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of GIS technology and how it is applied in environmental sciences, such as mapping pollution sources, tracking deforestation, and analyzing water quality. The students gained hands-on experience using GIS software to analyze environmental data and create maps that visualize critical issues like waste management, air pollution, and climate change.
The event kicked off with a series of informative presentations on the importance of GIS in solving real-world problems. Experts discussed the various applications of GIS, from disaster management and urban planning to conservation efforts and sustainable development. The students were not only given the technical knowledge of GIS but also encouraged to think about how they can use the technology to make positive changes in their communities and contribute to the global effort to combat environmental degradation.
One of the most exciting aspects of the program was the interactive mapping session, where students were able to actively participate in creating their own maps and use GIS to assess the environmental challenges in their local areas. They learned how to use GIS tools to identify pollution hotspots, analyze data related to natural resources, and propose solutions for more sustainable living. The hands-on training allowed participants to see firsthand how GIS can be used to make data-driven decisions that can positively impact the environment.
The event concluded with a discussion and feedback session in which students shared their thoughts and ideas on how to apply their new knowledge of GIS to address environmental challenges in their own communities. The workshop left participants feeling inspired and equipped to take action. They were encouraged to continue learning about GIS technology and how it can be used as a tool for environmental advocacy and sustainability.
The Bangladesh Green Environmental Research Centre is dedicated to empowering youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to be the future leaders in environmental protection. By providing young people with the tools to understand and apply GIS technology, we hope to create a generation that is not only technologically savvy but also committed to creating sustainable solutions for the challenges of tomorrow. We look forward to continuing our work with educational institutions to promote environmental awareness and inspire the next generation of EcoWarriors.
